"Madrigals" 2009
Str - Solo Mandolin
15´
The Work
“Madrigals” is inspired by Gesualdo’s miraculous madrigal, “Mercè grido piangendo”, being quoted in the very end of the piece. Similarly to madrigal writing, the writing for the strings is largely focused on independent flowing lines rather than a group vs. a soloist. The solo mandolin plays a double role - both as an ordinary voice through the flowing lines and as a leader, commenting on and leading the action.
